Nutritional Specialist – Maternity Cover (18 Months) South Wales or UK-Wide | Office-Based, Hybrid or Remote

Full-Time or Part-Time Options | December Start Ideal

The Animal People Recruitment Company is partnering with a respected pet nutrition brand to recruit a Nutritional Specialist for an 18-month maternity cover. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a supportive technical team and play an important role in shaping product accuracy, education, and consumer trust during a key period for the business.

The Nutritional Specialist role can be based in the South Wales office, work in a hybrid environment, or fully remote from anywhere in the UK. Full-time or part-time hours are available depending on the person.

Why This Role Is Important

The brand is known for honest feeding, nutritional integrity and creating products pet owners truly trust. You’ll be part of a small but supportive team, where collaboration is encouraged and you’ll be given the tools, guidance and freedom you need to succeed. You’ll have a line manager who is genuinely supportive, clear, and invested in bringing out the best in the people she leads.
  • You’ll take ownership of the nutritional and technical elements of the upcoming rebrand, ensuring all pack copy, claims and artwork are accurate and compliant.
  • As the Nutritional Specialist, you’ll help maintain the brand’s long-standing reputation for transparency, clarity, and trust.
  • You’ll work closely with a friendly technical team who value flexibility, clear communication and doing things properly.
  • The company is continuing to grow, with longer-term opportunities likely as the technical function expands.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Reviewing and approving packaging, nutritional claims and product specifications.
  • Providing technical input across NPD projects from early concept through to launch.
  • Benchmarking competitor products and tracking nutritional and regulatory trends.
  • Supporting consumer complaint escalations and quality investigations.
  • Creating training and educational materials for internal teams and retailers.
  • Collaborating with Brand, Quality, Customer Services and Supply Chain.
  • Reporting directly into the Head of Technical, working with both South Wales and remote team members.
What We’re Looking For

You may already be working as a Nutritional Specialist, or you could be a recent graduate with a strong interest in pet nutrition or food science. The team is open, encouraging and focused on finding someone who will thrive in their culture.
Ideally you’ll bring:
  • A background or interest in pet nutrition, animal science, food science or similar
  • Understanding of FEDIAF or UK labelling regulations (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around technical copy and claims
  • Confidence juggling multiple projects
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset
Training and support will be provided for the right person.

What You’ll Get in Return
  • A competitive salary based on experience
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Flexibility around working pattern and location
  • A people-first culture with a friendly, collaborative, and supportive team
  • A line manager who will give you the tools, guidance and trust you need to succeed
  • The opportunity to make a real impact in a company that’s growing with heart, integrity and purpose
