Territory Sales Manager – Pet Accessories | Northeast & Eastern Scotland
Field-based, Northeast England and eastern Scotland
Up to £40,000 basic + commission/bonus + company car

Know your customers. Grow your patch. See the result in store.

If the best part of sales for you is getting out to see customers, spotting what is missing on a shelf and coming back with an idea that actually helps them sell more, this one is worth a look.

We're excited to be partnering with this pet accessories business for the first time. It has an established name in the pet trade, a broad range of products and a substantial customer base ready for somebody who can build on existing relationships while opening new doors.

This is a proper field sales role. You'll take ownership of a territory across Northeast England and eastern Scotland, working with independent pet retailers, some multi-site customers and wholesalers. You'll decide which accounts need a regular visit, where a new range or promotion could make a difference, and where there is new business to win.

What you'll be doing
  • Looking after an established portfolio of roughly 200–250 active accounts, planning visits according to their potential and needs.
  • Getting into stores, listening to retailers and recommending products, ranges and promotions that work for their customers.
  • Finding new stockists and developing business across your patch.
  • Spotting gaps in range, display space and sales performance using customer conversations and sales information.
  • Keeping your route, customer notes and orders organised, and sharing useful market feedback with the wider team.
What would make you a great fit

You have proven field sales experience, can grow existing accounts and enjoy the challenge of winning new ones. You plan a territory sensibly, build rapport quickly and are comfortable turning customer insight into a commercial recommendation. Pet trade experience would be brilliant, especially if you know independent retailers, but the client is equally interested in strong salespeople from other specialist retail or consumer product sectors who want to build a career in pet.

This patch includes regular travel and occasional overnight stays, particularly for the Scotland area. Most of your working week will be spent face to face with customers, so you'll need to enjoy life on the road.

The package and support
  • Basic salary up to £40,000, plus a monthly commission and annual bonus scheme.
  • Company car, fuel card, private healthcare and pension.
  • 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • A structured introduction to the products and business, time with experienced field colleagues, and a manager who stays close while you settle into the territory.
If you're already selling into the pet trade, I'd love to hear what you've built. If you're a strong field salesperson who has been looking for a way into the industry, please don't rule yourself out. Apply with your CV or message Katie Fletcher at The Animal People Recruitment Company for a confidential conversation.
