I’m Launching My Own Podcast: Meet the Animal People!

Chris Whatling • December 16, 2024

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of my brand-new podcast: Meet the Animal People!

For as long as I can remember, animals have been at the heart of everything I do. Whether it was dragging my mum into toy shops to complete my toy animal collection, watching Vets in Practice, David Attenborough documentaries, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Flipper on repeat, or growing up surrounded by pets who shaped my childhood, animals have always been my passion.

Today, I share my life with my two rescue cats, Harper and Bear, and my Cavapoo, Rodney, who is my pride and joy.

While I never became the vet I once dreamed of, I’ve spent over a decade building a career in recruitment that allows me to work exclusively within the pet and animal health industries.

Through founding The Animal People Recruitment Company, I’ve been fortunate to connect with thousands of incredible individuals whose work directly improves the lives of animals worldwide. From pet brands and veterinary hospitals to pharmaceutical innovators and surgical equipment manufacturers, I’ve seen firsthand the extraordinary impact these professionals make every day.

Why Meet the Animal People?

This podcast is my way of shining a light on the passionate individuals—both those I’ve already met and those I’m yet to meet—who are the heartbeat of the pet and animal health industries. I'll also be talking to people whose work and stories have inspired me.

Each episode will celebrate the diverse people behind the roles, brands, and innovations that better the lives of animals, including those working in:

🐾 Sales, Marketing, and Business Support
🐾
Technical, Clinical, and Executive Management
🐾
Manufacturing and Product Development
🐾
Animal Charities and Conservation Work

From veterinary professionals working on the frontlines, to business leaders, entrepreneurs, and those dedicating their lives to animal charities and conservation efforts—these are the people whose stories deserve to be told.

This podcast is for anyone working in, connected to, or inspired by the pet, veterinary, and animal health industries—and for anyone who simply shares a love for animals and the people who care for them.

Launching January 2025

The first episode of Meet the Animal People launches this January, and I’m beyond excited to share it with you. I’ll be announcing my first guest soon, and I promise it’s someone you won’t want to miss!

Want to Share Your Story?

If you work in the pet, veterinary, or animal health industries and have a story to tell, I’d love to feature you on the podcast. Whether you’re a vet, a marketer, a sales professional, a technical expert, or someone committed to animal welfare or conservation—this is your platform to share your journey and inspire others.

Key takeaways from the PIF Business Conference Last week, I attended a series of expert-led sessions hosted by Bird & Bird , in partnership with the Pet Industry Federation (PIF) , focused on a challenge that’s still very real for our industry: exporting pet products from the UK into the EU post‑Brexit . First, a genuine thank you to PIF for the invitation and for bringing businesses together to talk openly about what’s working, what isn’t, and where the risks really sit. These conversations matter , because exporting into Europe today is not what it was five years ago, and pretending otherwise helps no one.
